The VWP has joined forces with the London Region of the Workers’ Education Association (WEA) to give workers the opportunity to learn English and, at the same time, know their rights at work by producing a course that embeds employment rights into ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages).
A different employment rights topic is used as a theme for each session. The course includes the difference between agency workers and employees, contracts, wages and getting paid, discrimination and getting help to resolve issues at work.
The course is accredited to the Adult ESOL Core Curriculum at Entry 1 and will run over 10 sessions each lasting 2 hours though flexible delivery can be considered. It is being made available as a resource, free, to training providers, union branches, voluntary sector groups and employers operating in East London.
A meeting will be held on Wednesday, 24th September, 2.00pm - 4.00pm at Tower Hamlets Law Centre, 214 Whitechapel Road, E1 1BJ to discuss delivery with all interested parties. For more details contact Bob Blyth, Project Manager on 020 7467 1355, firstname.lastname@example.org.
